Dealing with Rebellious Teenagers : Give them responsibility.
Teenagers are famous for being rebellious. Even loving parents sometimes struggle to cope. Those parents that have the most success seem to be parents that invest TIME into their children come young adults.
My own father not only invested TIME, he also invested our time into numerous activities. With the view that 'idle hands are the devils playground' we were busy with community youth groups, church groups, camping, traveling generally enjoying life.
Many parents today have huge time demands on them and find it difficult to invest the time necessary to help change a child into an adult. The difficultly of giving the right amount of responsibility, freedom, challenges and opportunities for growth to help this process can be a difficult formula.
In a radical suggestion I propose that you help establish your teenagers new independence by helping to learn and earn in the world of hard knocks. Young people love technology. Most of them now multi-task - do several activities at the same time. They are tech-savvy and can spend huge amounts on the latest gadget or mobile phone bills and huge amounts of time on the internet. If they are going to be on the internet they can earn while the learn. For $10 a month (less than their average mobile phone bill) they can get their own website, domain name and a network marketing business.
Young people are natural net workers. Unlike adults who as they age become more introverted and less able to make new friends. Teenagers make new friends like they change clothes.
