An Interview with Alastair Harris: Success on the internet
Q. Hello Alastair, why did you get started in online business.
A. I got interested in the internet after hearing the story of the Google and also of utube. The founders of Google made absolute fortune from building an online business and now have a company worth more than the combined 3 auto makers in the U.S. all done in under 10 years, now that's business success. Likewise the founders of utube started a website for uploading videos and within a few years sold it for over a billion dollars to Google. A billionaire before 30 - now that would give one total financial freedom.
Q. Yes many people get envious of that kind of success. I see you named the main online business website - getfinancialfreedom4u.
A. Yes financial freedom is the main theme of our websites, not only for ourselves but others as well.
Q. Have you achieved that goal yet?
A. No, not yet. I believe I'll reach that goal when I can choose to do anything I want - be going on a world cruise, taking a jet to Europe or buying a beach side mansion. The power to choose when I'll work, where I'll live and what I do - when I achieve this type of power of choice I know I will have achieved the success and financial freedom I'm chasing.
Q. Why are you chasing that goal?
A. Because like many other people I'm sick of being a slave to the system. As a traditional wage earner I'm stuck on the 40-40 plan.
Q. The 40-40 plan?
A. Yes - the 40-40 plan - working 40 hours a week for 40 years. Not my idea of living. Although I enjoy the variety of my main occupation I desire better for my family and myself. I get particularly annoyed at the lack of choice available to the average citizen. Choice that is only available when you have financial freedom.
As a wage earner we are the most victimized group in society. We pay the most tax, do the most to support society and get the least in return. Over 50% of our wages go to the government - thats not what I call a democracy.
Q. Over 50% surely you exaggerate?
A. No - not at all. Most people pay 33% income tax, on top of that they pay a 10% Goods and Services Tax or VAT, rates, petrol tax, alcohol tax, fines, fees and other government charges means the average person is spending half the year working for the government - Robert Kiyosaki points this out.
Q. Who is Robert Kiyosaki?
A. He was a source of inspiration, his series of books like rich dad poor dad motivated me and educated me in the importance of understanding finances, taught me that an asset is something that puts money in your pocket, that businesses get the best tax rates, get to claim expenses and costs before paying tax and that as a wage earner it is almost impossible to get ahead.
Q. Are you anti-government?
A. No, not at all. In fact I work in a government job. But I do know that the government is unable to solve most people problems. In fact they often make things worse, particularly for the middle class which struggles to support an ever growing bureaucracy. We are getting to the stage where the middle class is almost going to cease to exist, the majority of people can't even afford to buy their own house now - a nation of tennants, or a nation in slavery to huge mortgages that will consume most of their income - not a great win-win situation except for ever greedier governments and their banker mates. I decide my life was not going to continue to follow that pattern.
Q. So that's why you made a change?
A. Yes exactually. I searched for a business I could do part time, that required low start up cost and found it in the internet. With its explosive growth, its world wide reach and the fact I could do it from my computer at home made it fit perfectly with my options.
Q. Have you succeeded?
A. I'm certainly on the way. Our article directory article-gems.com has now passed 10,000 articles and continues to increase in its growth rate. It was rated by two separate independant people as being in the top ten article directories online.
Q. Out of how many competitors?
A. 1000's so thats not a bad result. We however have huge goals and want next be rated in the top five - and have over 100,000 articles.
Q. How long will that take?
A. Probably another two years. We are rated on Alexa now and have growing search engine traffic hits. The income from an article directory is pretty low, but we use it to advertise our global domains international business with banners and the like.

A. I'm no Tim Sebert or Marty Orcutt with thousands in my down line, but I introduced 8 last month and 3 so far this month so long as I see growth I happy as over time it will pay off. I actually get more excited when I see my down line introduce new people as I know I have taught others and I can then benefit from their work - the power of leverage.
Q. How's the income?
A. Now that would be telling. At the moment getfinancialfreedom4u reinvests all money earned on the internet from adsense, GDI, affiliate marketing, etc straight back into the business, advertising, paying for hosting, etc. This in turn will help the business to grow faster. Where still at the very early stages, but over time this income will just keep increasing exponentially as our MLM takes off and our other online ventures continue their rapid growth.
Q. Thanks for your time, if you have one piece of advice for newbies, what is it?
A. Watch the GDI movie! Learn, learn and learn; and don't let anyone stop you from reaching your dreams.
