Alot of people may have heard of an ebook or read an advertisement with the promise of a free ebook without knowing what an ebook is.
Simply put an ebook is an electronic book. It is a book that exists in the cyber world and can be read on a computer or exists online. A number of programs like Adobe exist to make the reading of a ebook similar to reading a traditional book, dividing it up into pages and changing the format in which you read it - either single page, two pages side by side, scrolling down pages or putting a button to 'flip' pages.
An ebook has many advantages over the traditional hardcover and softcover books that we are familiar growing up with. For a start an ebook can be transferred over the internet, it can be put on a flash drive or like storage device and hence is very transportable. You can change the size of the text very easily to make reading easy particular for those with any sight impairment. Other advantages include that you can print off any section you want. Often ebooks have helpful links in them to take you a relevant point on the internet, further information. Ebooks also tend to be cheaper than there paper counterparts because there is not publishing costs of printing, transport or the like to incur.
Some disadvantages of ebooks include that you must have a computer to read them and that means it is abit difficult to curl up in bed with one - even a laptop doesn't feel quite the same. Another disadvantage is that not all ebooks are create equal. Some can end up being no more than sales pitches. Soon however have given the everyday man and woman the chance to become an author and share their work without being imprisoned to the will of a publisher.
